Haugen departs Canary for MinnPost

Dan Haugen

MinnPost has hired Dan Haugen to be its deputy editor.

His first day is July 21.

Haugen is a senior editor at Canary Media. He joined Canary Media as part of its 2025 merger with the Energy News Network, where he was managing editor and oversaw state and local reporting on clean energy policy.

He was an early contributor for MinnPost, writing its Business Agenda blog until 2009.

After years of freelancing for MinnPost, Twin Cities Business and others, he became an editor and watchdog coach at the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, where he oversaw the newsroom’s core local news reporters.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
