James R. (Bob) Hagerty, who joined The Wall Street Journal in 1978, has retired from the newspaper.
He most recently was based in Pittsburgh and wrote obituaries and other feature stories.
Over the past four decades, he also has worked as a reporter, editor and bureau chief for The Journal and the International Herald Tribune in Hong Kong, London, Brussels, Paris, Atlanta and New York.
He served as managing editor of The Wall Street Journal’s Asian edition (1994-1998) and London bureau chief of The Journal (2000-2003).
Hagerty holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of North Dakota.
He is the author of “The Fateful History of Fannie Mae,” published by History Press in 2012, and “Yours Truly,” published by Kensington’s Citadel Press imprint, a book on how to tell life stories.
