The Guardian has hired Jeremy Barr as its first dedicated media reporter in the U.S.
He starts Oct. 6 and will report to Guardian U.S. business editor Dominic Rushe.
Barr comes to the Guardian from the Washington Post where, for the last five years, he has reported on the media industry, including a recent scoop on the Smartmatic defamation case against Fox News.
Prior, he was the senior media and politics writer for The Hollywood Reporter and covered the business of media for AdAge and Politico New York.
As the Guardian’s U.S. media and power reporter, Barr will cover the intersection of media, politics and corporate influence, examining how powerful institutions shape the flow of information and public debate.
He will work closely with Guardian editors and reporters across desks and bureaus, including the UK’s media editor Michael Savage, to deliver coverage on the shifting dynamics of the U.S. media landscape – including cable news and the changing television industry at large – and the role of media in American life.
