Globe and Mail business reporter Tim Shulfelt is forming a bridge between the economy and investing teams.

He will take on responsibility for covering some of the major economic data releases and helping readers understand what they mean to their lives and portfolios.

Shufelt has been a regular contributor to the “Market Forces” column, which puts the week’s investing news in the context of broader economic trends.

Shufelt joined the Globe and Mail in August 2013, primarily to cover investments for Report on Business.

Prior to the Globe, he worked as a staff writer at Canadian Business magazine, a business reporter at the Financial Post, and covered city news and courts for the Ottawa Citizen.

He has an economics degree from the University of Guelph and a journalism degree from Ryerson University.
