Mike Giglio has been named features editor at Rest of World.
He has reported from countries around the world and embedded extensively with local forces to cover the conflicts in Syria, Iraq, and Ukraine. His investigative work led to the dismantling of an ISIS oil smuggling network, aided the prosecution of traffickers in conflict antiquities, and caused the U.S. government to admit responsibility for three dozen civilian casualties.
Giglio is the author of “Shatter the Nations: ISIS and the War for the Caliphate,” a two-time finalist for the Livingston Award, a winner of the Arthur F. Burns Prize, and a recipient of the 2022 ASU Future Security Fellowship from New America.
He is also the executive producer of a forthcoming documentary film based on his reporting. His work has appeared in Newsweek, BuzzFeed, The Atlantic, The Intercept, and The New Yorker, as well as on the radio program “This American Life.”
