Dortmund University in Germany is starting a a master’s program in economics policy and journalism.
The English-language program is meant for people with a bachelor’s degree in economics, or an equivalent degree, from all over the world. The curriculum consists of three pillars: economics, practical journalism skills and some media theory.
Internships at international media outlets provide on-the-job experiences. Located at the heart of the European Union with Frankfurt, Cologne, Brussels and Paris in relative proximity, the Ruhr region is one of the great agglomerations on the continent, offering affordable costs of living while there is zero tuition.
A recent study in which one of its professors, Henrik Müller, was involved found that high-quality, critical business journalism helps curb corporate manipulation and makes stock markets work better – evidence that a well-informed, independent press is essential not just for democracy, but for healthy economies.
