Boston Globe Rhode Island editor Lylah Alphonse, business editor Greg Huang and deputy business editor Tim Logan sent out the following:
Hey all,
We have some big news: Globe Rhode Island stalwart Alexa Gagosz this spring will join the Business desk up in Boston, to cover retail and the consumer economy.
Alexa came to the Globe in 2021 as a business reporter covering the healthcare and higher education industries in Rhode Island. She soon added to her portfolio, covering hospitality, housing, homelessness — and winning award after award
after award after award for her work. She’s versatile, indefatigable and creative, qualities that are obvious no matter where in the newsroom you sit, and that shone through in her major role covering December’s mass shooting at Brown, for instance. She’s also entrepreneurial: In 2022 Alexa launched a popular and award-winning newsletter, The Food Club, about restaurants and dining in Rhode Island, which has since expanded to include other New England states. This year, The Food Club franchise is going live, with an event at the Track 15 Food Hall in Providence on May 6.
She’ll keep writing about the business end of restaurants, along with brand-name New England companies from CVS to Dunkin to New Balance to Market Basket, and smart stories about how we consume today and what it means. We can’t wait to see what she does.
Come May, Alexa will be sitting with the rest of the business crew. Please stop by and say hi… and if you have a great lunch spot to share, she’s all ears.
