The Financial Times has appointed Claire Jones as U.S. economics editor, based in Washington DC, to lead a newly formed team and strengthen coverage of trade and economics under the Trump administration.

Jones will oversee coverage of the Federal Reserve, financial regulation, monetary and fiscal policy, economic data and trends, and global economic governance.

Jones joined the FT in 2011 and has since held a variety of economic reporting and editing roles, including Frankfurt bureau chief, Eurozone economy correspondent, Trade Secrets editor and global economy reporter for FT Alphaville, among others. Most recently, she served as international economy news editor on the global economy team in London.

“The Trump administration’s policies continue to reverberate across markets and industries,” said Brooke Masters, FT’s U.S. managing editor, in a statement. “From tariffs and tax cuts to the evolving trade-climate nexus, these decisions will have far-reaching implications. Under Claire’s leadership, our expanded team will provide FT readers with authoritative, in-depth reporting on this increasingly complex economic landscape.”
