FT hires Heeter to cover deals and activists

The Financial Times has hired The Information reporter Maria Heeter to cover mergers and acquisitions and activist investors.

Heeter will start later this month and be based in New York.

She has been covering a similar beat for The Information for the past year. Before that, Heeter was covering venture capital, cryptocurrency and finance for The Information.

She was a real estate reporting intern at Bloomberg News. She was an economics major at Scripps College and a contributor for The Student Life, the student newspaper of the seven Claremont Colleges, where she formerly served as editor-in-chief.

Previously, she was a reporting intern at The Sacramento Bee. She began her career as a freelancer for InDepth New Hampshire, covering state politics and the 2020 presidential campaign.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
