The Financial Times has hired Lucy Fisher as its new Whitehall editor.

Fisher is currently chief political commentator at Times Radio and will join the FT in May.

As Whitehall editor, Fisher will cover the stories behind the headlines from Westminster, with a particular focus on the Conservative party and foreign policy. She will also be a co-host of the FT’s relaunched weekly Political Fix podcast and write a monthly column.

Fisher was previously deputy political editor at The Daily Telegraph, and before that worked for The Times, where she was chief political correspondent and then defence editor.

Fisher said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the FT, a newspaper I have long admired as a reader. I can’t wait to get stuck into this exciting role at such a pivotal time in British politics, and I look forward to working with George Parker and the outstanding Westminster reporting team.”

Fisher has appeared regularly on the BBC and Sky News, including the programs “Newsnight,” “Westminster Hour,” “Today,” “World At One,” “PM” and “The Papers.”
