FT hires Berthelsen as US editor of markets and companies coverage

The Financial Times has hires Christian Berthelsen as its U.S. editor for markets and companies coverage.

He had been at The Messenger as a financial investigations reporter.

Previously, he covered financial crime and illicit finance, including national security and international tax evasion for Bloomberg.

Prior to joining Bloomberg in July 2016, Berthelsen was a senior commodity markets reporter for the Money & Investing section at The Wall Street Journal.

He oversaw coverage of securities law, entertainment law and law firm business for the Los Angeles Daily Journal. He also worked as a staff writer at the Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle.

While at the Chronicle, he was twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in investigative reporting.

Berthelsen has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Hofstra University and a M.S. in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
