Sports business news site Front Office Sports has hired Kennington Smith to cover the business of college football.

Smith spent the past year freelancing for the Associated Press and AL.com covering Alabama football and athletics. He will cover everything from NIL deals to media rights, coach buyouts to conference realignment, and the power brokers who loom over the sport, from commissioners and boosters to coaches and school executives.

“I live and breathe college football, and the latest business storylines are endlessly interesting to a broad audience,” Smith said in a statement. “Covering Alabama in many ways already felt like a national beat. Now I’m thrilled to be joining Front Office Sports to cover the sport at the national level.”

Prior to his time writing for the AP and AL.com, Smith covered Iowa football for the Des Moines Register and worked at The Athletic as its Alabama beat reporter. He has also been a frequent guest on “The Paul Finebaum Show.”

He is a University of Georgia graduate.
