Fortune magazine is making more layoffs on Monday, with a newsroom meeting scheduled later for today.
In an email to the staff, CEO Anastasia Nyrkovskaya said the cuts are 10% of the publication’s staff.
The cuts are not tied to a pilot exploring using artificial intelligence for news stories, insiders have emphasized. Deputy leadership editor Azure Gilman was among the cuts.
Editor in chief Alyson Shontell is expected to tell the staff that the newsroom reorganization is due to moving away from commodity reporting and more toward in-depth, premium coverage.
It’s the second round of layoffs at Fortune this year. In February, the company underwent another reorganization where staff were cut.
Fortune laid off 35 staffers back in 2020. It also had layoffs back in 2009.
