The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has hired Sharon Weinberger as editor-in-chief.
Sarah Starkey of The Bulletin writes, “She has been a writer and editor focusing on national security, science and technology for more than 25 years, and was most recently the National Security Editor of the Wall Street Journal.
“’I am thrilled to have Sharon Weinberger joining as our next editor-in-chief,’ said Bulletin President and CEO Alexandra Bell. ‘She is committed to our mission to inform the public about human-caused existential threats and understands the essential role of a free and fair press in managing those threats. Armed with integrity, experience, and expertise, Sharon will help build the next great chapter in the Bulletin‘s storied history.’
“Weinberger is author of the forthcoming book “Valley of Death: How Big Tech Is Fueling the Future of War.” Her prior books include “The Imagineers of War, A Nuclear Family Vacation” and “Imaginary Weapons.”
“Weinberger was a 2026 Omidyar Network reporter-in-residence and has also held fellowships at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, MIT’s Knight Science Journalism program, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the International Reporting Project at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.”
