ForbesBLK to cover Black business, hold events

Forbes magazine announced on Tuesday that it was launching ForbesBLK to cover Black entrepreneurs and hold events.

The editorial content will include new lists, profiles, content strategies and a new newsletter.

Forbes also hired a full-time community manager, Ayisha Mendez, who will help guide the platform and foster community with its members.

“Forbes will continue to invest in the growth and success of the ForbesBLK community and its members,” said chief content officer Randall Lane in a statement. “We are committed to using our platforms to drive meaningful change in business, culture and society.”

An advisory council includes Jacqueline Jones, dean of the School of Global Journalism & Communication at Morgan State University, and Ingrid Sturgis, department chair of journalism at Howard University.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
