Adolfo Flores, a Texas-based U.S. News reporter for The Wall Street Journal, was among the layoffs last week.

Flores previously covered immigration and breaking news for BuzzFeed News where he wrote about asylum-seekers on both sides of the southern border and the U.S. immigration detention system. He was the first U.S. reporter on the ground to write about the 2018 caravan that drew international attention. He moved to the Texas border in 2019 to continue reporting and writing about the impact of immigration policies on migrants and asylum-seekers attempting to cross the border.

Previously, Flores covered public safety, courts, and breaking news for the Los Angeles Times, Pasadena Sun, and Pasadena Star-News. He reported on the 2014 Isla Vista mass shooting for the L.A. Times. The coverage was a Pulitzer finalist for breaking news.

He is a Los Angeles native, a Spanish speaker, and a graduate of Cal State Northridge.
