Lachlan Cartwright of Breaker reports that former Wall Street Journal reporter Stephanie Armour has started a GoFundMe account to fund litigation against the publication.

Cartwright reports, “As previously reported by Breaker, former senior special writer Stephanie Armour, is also suing the paper over its use of Performance Improvement Plans (otherwise known as PIPs) to manage her out of her role, alleging discrimination. Armour and her attorney, Rob Housman claim the Journal fabricated performance issues to get rid of her.

“Armour’s pockets aren’t quite as deep as Murdoch’s, and so, she has started a GoFundMe. Her fundraising initiative claims to be an effort to hold the Wall Street Journal and all big companies accountable.

“Life inside the Wall Street Journal (where, as Breaker previously reported, PIPs have almost doubled since editor in chief Emma Tucker took over in 2023) was, perhaps, the inspiration for a November story ‘The Most Hated Way of Firing Someone Is More Popular Than Ever. It’s the Age of the PIP.’

“Notably, the WSJ forgot to mention their enthusiasm for PIPs in the aforementioned yarn. A spokesperson for The Wall Street Journal declined to comment.”
