Energy reporter Paullin departing Virginia Mercury

Charlie Paullin

Charlie Paullin, the energy and environmental reporter for the Virginia Mercury, is leaving the publication at the end of the year.

He previously worked for Northern Virginia Daily in the Northern Shenandoah Valley and for the New Britain Herald in central Connecticut.

An Alexandria native, Paullin graduated from the University of Hartford initially wanting to cover sports. He’s received several Virginia Press Association awards for his coverage of crime, local government and state politics.

Virginia Mercury is part of States Newsroom, the nation’s largest state-focused nonprofit news organization.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
