Symbolic.ai, a startup that provides newsrooms and communications professionals with an artificial intelligence platform, announced a major new partnership with News Corp., the conglomerate behind Dow Jones, which includes The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, MarketWatch, and Dow Jones Newswires, reports Ben Sherry of Inc.
Sherry writes, “Wenig says that he initially reached out to News Corp roughly a year ago, and started experimenting with their newsrooms around six months ago. The first (and currently only) News Corp team to officially deploy Symbolic as a core part of its workflow is Dow Jones Newswires, the publisher’s popular wire service. According to a press release, the Newswires team’s initial test with Symbolic ‘yielded productivity gains of as much as 90% for complex research tasks.’ Other newsrooms now have the capability of using the platform, but whether or not they adopt it will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
“Wenig describes the News Corp deal as a ‘watershed moment’ for the publishing industry, and anticipates that the announcement will embolden other newsrooms that have adopted AI tools to be more vocal and transparent about their usage of the tech. ‘Unfortunately, the industry is technologically conservative,’ Wenig says, ‘but instead of worrying about it, you should be racing to it.”'”
