Dow Jones & Co. CEO Almar Latour sent out the following on Thursday:
Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Mark DeCambre will be our new MarketWatch editor in chief, starting March 21.
In this role, Mark will be responsible for shaping coverage amid volatile markets and shifting reader habits, as well as finding innovative ways to serve a new generation of investors. He takes over at an exciting time—MarketWatch has grown to an audience of more than 50 million monthly readers and nearly doubled revenue over the last five years, making it one of Dow Jones’s great success stories.
Mark will be tasked with adding to the heft and impact of MarketWatch’s core coverage areas, building new offerings that span text, video, audio and live events, and setting an editorial agenda to ensure continued expansion of our digital audience and subscriber base.
Mark takes over for Jeremy Olshan, who will be personal finance bureau chief for The Wall Street Journal starting next week, after having led MarketWatch since 2014.
A veteran of The Street, The New York Post, Quartz and MarketWatch, Mark brings to this job a deep knowledge of Wall Street and markets, a knack for jumping early on emerging trends and a keen eye for the stories that will most engage readers.
As markets editor for MarketWatch since 2014, he helped lead a revamp of coverage that helped spur a surge in readership—more than tripling the site’s audience. During this time, he has also been one of MarketWatch’s most prolific and well-read contributors.
With his emphasis on speed, smart analysis and teasing out the key detail, data point or quote that captures the essence of the story, Mark has proven himself to be extraordinarily adept at making MarketWatch an essential daily habit for millions of readers. Mark has also been a key driver of MarketWatch’s launch of newsletters on ETFs and crypto, and our popular investing in crypto event series, creatively expanding our traditional focus on text news stories.
Mark will be based in the New York office and will report to Barron’s Group SVP & Associate Publisher and MarketWatch General Manager Dan Shar.
Please join me in thanking Jeremy and wishing Mark success in this important role.
