Dallas Morning News assistant business editor Kyle Arnold sent out the following on Wednesday:
All,
We are proud to announce that Nick Wooten will be joining The Dallas Morning News business team as a real estate reporter.
Nick comes to us from Atlanta’s NBC affiliate 11Alive, where he’s an investigative reporter who has spent much of the last year digging into the Fulton County criminal trial against former President Donald Trump and charges of election tampering.
Before that, he was an investigative and accountability reporter at the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer in Georgia where he covered the COVID-19 pandemic and elections. His reporting won several awards from the Georgia Press Association.
He even started his career just east of D-FW in Shreveport, La.
Nick’s background will serve him well as he dives into public filings, deeds and government agendas while his investigative skills will bring depth to our real estate team as he covers the issues of growth and affordability that come with Dallas-Fort Worth.
Here are some fun facts about Nick:
Mr. Wooten grew up in Augusta, Ga. and has a classic Southern drawl
His father worked at the Augusta Chronicle, his hometown newspaper
Learned colors and numbers from watching NASCAR races as a child
Graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Ga., where he majored in journalism and Southern studies (which I just learned is a thing)
Has two cats, Wendy and Bea
Plays guitar, loves museums and presidential history.
Favorite journalism interview was singer-songwriter Jason Isbell
Nick will join the newsroom on March 4. He will pair with Anna Butler, who started last month, on the real estate team and just miss 47-year Morning News veteran Steve Brown, who is retiring March 1.
