The Dallas Morning News business editor Paul O’Donnell sent out the following:
All,
We’re extremely excited to announce the hiring of Amber Gaudet as our new transportation/mobility reporter.
Amber has been a standout reporter at the Denton Record-Chronicle for the last three years, breaking stories about an HOA kicking out Section 8 recipients and the resulting federal investigation, life-threatening levels of chlorine gas prompting home evacuations that she found through a records request, a fraudulent company that won tax breaks from the city of Denton and a rent-to-own scheme that defrauded North Texas families.
In last year’s Texas APME awards, Amber took home both first place and third place for star investigative report of the year, second place for star reporter of the year and second place for star online package of the year.
She did all of that while first serving as editor-in-chief of The Lasso at Texas Woman’s University and later as a Mayborn journalism scholar in the University of North Texas master’s program.
Amber is a Georgia native who found her way to Texas almost a decade ago (but still reps Georgia football). When she’s not in the newsroom, you can find her at a concert, on a coffee date, spending time with her husband and their two cats, Max & Elaina, and traveling as much as her wallet will allow.
We’ve been following Amber’s work for several years and can’t wait for her to join the newsroom on a full-time basis. Her first day with us will be Tuesday, Jan. 2.
