Crain’s has hired a journalist with extensive public policy experience to oversee its Forum coverage in Michigan and Ohio.

A Crain’s Detroit story states, “Emily Lawler has been named the Forum and Policy Editor for Crain’s Detroit Business, Crain’s Grand Rapids Business and Crain’s Cleveland Business.

“Lawler joins Crain’s from the Detroit Free Press where she has served as state government and politics editor since 2022. She worked at MLive Media Group for eight years prior to the Free Press, starting as a business and Capitol reporter and working her way up to news leader.

“A graduate of Michigan State University, Lawler started her career covering politics and policy in Lansing for the Michigan Information and Research Service, the insider political newsletter known as MIRS.<

“‘Emily is an incredibly talented and deeply experienced journalist who will elevate the awareness and increase the impact of our Forum coverage,’ said Mickey Ciokajlo, executive editor of Crain’s Detroit Business. ‘Outside of Forum, she will also help lead our coverage of policy and power in Michigan and Ohio.'”
