Crain’s Chicago hires Jay as a general assignment reporter
Corli Jay has been hired as a general assignment reporter at Crain’s Chicago Business.
A story on its website states, “In addition to assisting Crain’s editors with day-to-day breaking news, Jay will cover affordable housing and labor and workforce issues.
“Jay comes to Crain’s from the Hyde Park Herald, where she was a reporter since March 2021. Before that, she worked as a freelance reporter for a several local publications and had a number of fellowships at City Bureau, a nonprofit civic media organization based on the South Side. Jay also served as an editor and writer for What’s the Word TV.
“Jay received a bachelor’s degree in public relations, advertising and applied communication in 2018 from Chicago State University, where she was also a member of the Tau Sigma national honor society.”

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
