Charlie Cooper has been hired by Politico Europe as its senior energy correspondent.
For the past 18 months, Cooper has been media manager for Fauna & Floria International and a freelance writer.
Cooper trained as a journalist at Goldsmiths, University of London, before joining The Independent. His coverage of rising food bank use in the U.K. contributed to a nomination for Young Journalist of the Year at the British Press Awards 2012, and he was promoted to health correspondent the following year.
After two years covering health, in which he highlighted the funding crisis in the NHS and spearheaded coverage of the junior doctors’ strike, he was appointed Whitehall correspondent for the paper, covering the EU referendum and the fallout from the Brexit vote.
Cooper joined Politico in September 2016, and has covered the U.K.’s triggering of Article 50, the Westminster terror attack and the 2017 general election. He was named among the MHP Young Journalist Awards 30 To Watch 2017.
