Matt Cuddy, the Washington bureau chief for CNBC, retired on Friday.

He has been with the business news channel since 1993 and was bureau chief since 1997. He started as a producer.

“You could not ask for a harder working, more generous colleague and boss,” said CNBC senior Washington correspondent Eamon Javers on Twitter. “This place just will not be the same without his unbelievable energy and enthusiasm.”

Cuddy previously was an editor and producer for Conus Communications from 1990 to 1993, and he before that was a video journalist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

He is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
