CNBC reporter Mui departing after six years

Ylan Mui, a reporter in CNBC’s Washington bureau covering economic policy and Congress, is leaving after six years.

Before joining CNBC in 2017, Mui spent more than a decade at The Washington Post, including serving as the White House economic policy writer. While there, she also covered the Federal Reserve, the economy, subprime lending, consumer finance, retail and education. In addition, she traveled to cover major international stories, including the Greek financial crisis and Brexit, as well as national disasters such as the BP oil spill and Hurricane Katrina.

Ylan began her career as a receptionist and obituary writer at The Times-Picayune in New Orleans, where she was born and raised. Ylan graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a major in communications and a double minor in biology and philosophy.

She is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association, where she is a past vice president of the Washington, DC chapter. She is also a graduate of AAJA’s Executive Leadership Program.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
