CNBC makes small number of international layoffs

CNBC has made a small number of layoffs in its international operation in London.

The move is the first step made by Deep Bagchee, who started in August to run CNBC International.

“In a memo to staff last week, it was announced that a small number of roles have been impacted as part of a reorganization of the newsroom that better positions the company for future success,” a CNBC spokeswoman stated.

A year ago, CNBC.com laid off slightly more than a dozen editorial staffers in its digital and video operations. The cuts represent about 3 percent of its U.S workforce, which less than 20 employees. Some of the cuts were reporters.

The company will be part of a new corporation being spun off from Comcast that will include its cable channels.
