CNBC editor in chief David Cho sent out the following:

CNBC is expanding its economics coverage, bringing together a dedicated team to deliver deeper reporting and sharper analysis on the forces shaping the economy, markets and consumers. This investment reflects the brand’s continued focus on creating greater value for audiences through the journalism and expertise they rely on, while supporting Versant’s broader strategy to deepen engagement and invest in long-term growth.

Leading this effort is Erik Holm, who joins CNBC today as Economics Editor from The Wall Street Journal. Throughout his 16 years at the paper, he helped lead coverage of retail, deals and markets, and played a key role in the Journal’s enterprise reporting and long-form business features. Before joining the Journal, he held reporting and editing roles at Bloomberg News and Newsday.

Erik will oversee CNBC’s economics coverage, with a focus on producing in-depth stories related to the Federal Reserve and the global economy. He’ll lead a team that already dominates coverage of the Fed and the U.S. Treasury and delivers the fastest, smartest takes on economic data, while expanding its remit to include broader stories about the U.S. economy and the intersection of macro and markets. This effort includes Senior Economics Reporter Steve Liesman, Senior Producer Betsy Spring, Senior Economics Writer Matt Peterson, Senior Economics Correspondent Jeff Cox, and Economics Reporter Alex Harring.
