CNBC.com adds four to its news staff

CNBC.com managing editor Jeff McCracken sent out the following on Monday:

I want to let everyone know about a few recent additions to the CNBC.com newsroom.

First, I am happy to announce that Chelsey Cox joined the politics team this month as a general assignment reporter with a focus on the economy and breaking news. She will report to Senior Politics Editor Dawn Kopecki.

Chelsey previously covered politics for USA Today as a breaking news and general assignment reporter. While there, she helped cover the Jan. 6 committee hearings, the Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020, and the inauguration of President Joe Biden. Before that, Chelsey was a reporter on USA Today’s fact-check team and covered breaking news on the Universal NOW desk.

Chelsey has a master’s degree in journalism from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Chelsey is a Virginia native who grew up in Lynchburg. She enjoys the outdoors, regularly going on long trail walks and unplanned beach trips. (Who doesn’t love unplanned beach trips?)

Also, Joy-Marie Scott has joined our newsroom as a news editor on our hotseat team, reporting to Deputy Managing Editor Elisabeth Cordova.

For the past eight years, Joy worked at the San Antonio Express-News, beginning with an array of digital roles that included homepage, video and podcast production. She then developed the position of audience analyst using newsroom metrics to guide engagement reporting, SEO, social, newsletters, and overall promotion strategy. Joy also assisted with consumer revenue initiatives, including a premium subscriber base and Apple News distribution.

Joy earned her bachelor’s degree in women’s studies and ethnic studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and her master’s degree in media studies at New School University. In addition to her career in the newsroom, Joy coordinated production funding for award-winning documentaries with the Independent Television Service and helped program the annual lineup for the San Francisco International Film Festival and SXSW.

She and her husband, Mike, are thrilled to relocate to the NYC metro area, along with their two kids, Roman, 10, and Zula, 13. Joy grew up in a military family in Northern California and loves film, music and road trips.

I also want to let everyone know about two internal moves. Sofia Pitt, who spent three years as a reporter at Grow, has joined the CNBC.com newsroom as a technology reporter. She will report to Tech Editor Todd Haselton and aim to develop a focus on new gadgets and technology for consumers.

She’s worked on eight CNBC TV programs over the last decade. Before working at Grow, Sofia served as a line producer on “Squawk on the Street” and “Squawk Alley.” Previously, she helped launch “Worldwide Exchange” in the United States where she served as a producer. Sofia has been with NBCUniversal since 2013, when she was hired as a page.

Sofia holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media studies from Rutgers University. She is a New Jersey native and recently moved back to the Garden State with her husband. In her spare time, she loves to play tennis, draw and cook. She sometimes posts her recipes on her Instagram food account, @bottomlesspitt_.

Also joining the newsroom is Carmen Reinicke, who comes over to the markets team from Invest in You. During her almost two-year stint there, she covered a range of topics, including financial literacy, economic policy and personal finance. She will report to Senior Markets Editor John Melloy.

Before joining CNBC, she covered U.S. markets and the economy for Business Insider. She also interned at Bloomberg News.

Carmen is a graduate of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY and Vassar College. She grew up in Janesville, Wisconsin.

Outside work, she’s a mentor with Girls Write Now, sings in the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus, plays with her cat, Zia, and runs with the Prospect Park Track Club. Carmen ran her first marathon this year, in Brooklyn, and called it “fun.”
