Rory Carroll has been named group editor overseeing two websites — tech site Gizmodo and auto site Jalopnik.

Carroll will report to Jim Spanfeller, CEO of G/O Media, and will work with Gizmodo deputy editor Rose Pastore in his new capacity.

“Gizmodo is an amazing, storied brand that I’m proud to lead,” said Carroll in a statement. “There is so much synergy between the automotive and technology fields that it feels like a natural fit to oversee both sites as they continue to grow.”

Carroll previously had been editor in chief of Jalopnik, a role he had held since May of 2023 and from 2020 to 2022. During his earlier tenure running Jalopnik, he led the site to impressive traffic and advertising gains.

Previously Carroll led editorial and business efforts at Autoweek as editorial director and publisher. At Autoweek, he steered the business through a rebranding resulting in double digit audience growth. He also was a contributor to The New York Times’ Wheels blog.
