OLD Media Moves

Carlozo joins Buy Side from the Wall Street Journal

Lou Carlozo

Lou Carlozo, a veteran journalist whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Reuters, Forbes, Aol and MSN Money, has joined Buy Side from the Wall Street Journal as an inaugural contributor.

In this role, Carlozo will contribute pieces related to banking, investment and other financial topics. He will retain his post as the editor in chief of Qwoted, a journalism sourcing platform, and the host-creator of Bankadelic, a financial services podcast.

“This is a real honor,” Carlozo said. “I’m hoping to bring equal parts skill and puckishness I learned from reading the Wall Street Journal’s ‘middle column’ over the years.” His first piece, on chasing high-yield savings, debuted at No. 2 among Buy Side’s most read pieces.

Buy Side, a new commerce website, debuted on June 13. The free site will feature hundreds of reviews for various consumer goods and personal finance products. “We see this as a logical step for us to take,” said chief revenue officer Josh Stinchcomb, who will oversee the new venture.

A former managing editor at AOL’s WalletPop and the Bank Administration Institute, Carlozo spent 16 years at the Chicago Tribune as a syndicated weekly columnist, staff writer and editor. There, he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and Polk Award winner (team reporting) for his contributions to the “Killing Our Children” series.

Carlozo graduated from Rutgers University with a B.A. in English and an M.S. in written communication from National Louis University in Chicago.
