Cardinal News hires Busse as a biz reporter

Matt Busse

Cardinal News, which covers Southwest Virginia, has hired Matt Busse as a business reporter.

Dwayne Yancey of Cardinal News writes, “Matt spent nearly 19 years at The News & Advance in Lynchburg, most recently as its managing editor. He began as a reporter covering business, local government and courts, and later served as the digital editor for multiple Virginia newsrooms. A Richmond native, he graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in mass communications. He lives in Lynchburg. You can reach him at matt@cardinalnews.org.

“He’ll be covering economic issues across Southwest and Southside, with particular attention on energy and the environment.

“We started in September 2021 with two full-time staff reporters. With Matt coming on board, we now have six, triple our original reporting staff. Our full staff now consists of 10 full-time employees plus a part-time copy editor.”

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
