Bustillo named US news editor at WSJ

Miguel Bustillo

Miguel Bustillo, global energy and climate editor at The Wall Street Journal, is becoming its U.S. news editor.

Bustillo joined the Journal in 2008 to cover Wal-Mart and other retailers. He has been global energy and climate editor for the past nine months.

As an editor, he oversaw U.S. news coverage of the western U.S., before becoming U.S. energy editor in 2016. In that role, he helped to lead the Journal’s agenda-setting coverage of the fracking boom, the deadly California wildfires sparked by PG&E and this year’s Texas freeze. The PG&E coverage won a Loeb and numerous other awards and was a Pulitzer finalist.

Prior to joining the Journal, Bustillo spent 15 years at the Los Angeles Times, where he was a national correspondent, environmental writer and state political reporter, among other assignments.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
