Burns leaving Sports Business Journal for Morning Consult

Mark Burns

Mark Burns, a reporter at the Sports Business Journal, is leaving the publication to join Morning Consult as a senior brands reporter.

He will start Tuesday and publish a newsletter.

He joined Sports Business Journal as a staff writer covering NHL hockey in 2019.

Burns was a senior sports business reporter for the Morning Consult beforehand. He also founded the Sports Business Chronicle, where he acted as editor-in-chief. Additionally, Burns has written for Forbes, SportTechie, USA Hockey and others.

He graduated with a law degree from Belmont University and the University of Michigan with a B.A. in history.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
