Ben Scent, a London-based executive editor on the Bloomberg Deals team, sent the following note last week:

Hi all — we’re very excited to announce that Jonathan Browning is joining the team as Managing Editor for EMEA Deals.
Jonny is currently a senior reporter on the Legal team and deputy London bureau chief. In his new role, he’ll continue to divide his time between managing and reporting, working closely with team leader Fion Li to ensure we keep breaking the biggest M&A, IPO and private equity transactions across the region. Jonny will start with us next week so we can work together before I relocate to Hong Kong later in the summer.
The move marks a homecoming for Jonny, who previously spent six years on the Asia Deals team chronicling the rise and fall of Chinese overseas acquisitions. During his time in Hong Kong, he produced scoops on a string of global deals by opaque Chinese conglomerates like HNA Group. He also helped break news on Asia’s biggest ever private equity buyout at the time — the $10 billion takeover of Singapore’s Global Logistic Properties — as well as ChemChina’s $43 billion deal for Syngenta.
Since joining the Legal group, he’s teamed up with Finance to report on the depth of Jeffrey Epstein’s ties with Prince Andrew and former Barclays boss Jes Staley, and done multiple deep dives into the sprawling empire of the billionaire Hinduja brothers. Most recently, Jonny was part of a team that unraveled Wall Street’s ties to now-collapsed mortgage firm MFS. He’s also served as deputy London bureau chief for the last 2 1/2 years, helping run our internship and apprenticeship programs.
We’re also happy to announce that Fareed Sahloul, our London-based senior editor, will become acting team leader when Fion goes on maternity leave this month. Fareed has rapidly become an integral part of our global operations since joining Bloomberg in 2020 from Financial News, and we’re pleased to have him back in London with us after a two-year stint in New York.
Jonny is excited to join a team that has broken the biggest deals in EMEA so far this year, including Kone’s €29 billion acquisition of TK Elevator, Unilever’s plans to separate its $45 billion food business and Deutsche Telekom’s potential merger with T-Mobile USA.
Please join me in welcoming Jonny to the team. Now, let’s go break some more news!
