Brian Platt

Bloomberg News Canada executive editor Derek Decloet sent out the following on Monday:

Dear colleagues

We’re very pleased to announce that Brian Platt will be our next bureau chief in Ottawa.

Brian joined us nearly five years ago as our government reporter and has helped to increase the profile and impact of Bloomberg News in Canada. He’s broken a number of big stories on trade and industrial policy, such as the Carney government’s decision last August to drop most of its retaliatory tariffs against the US, and he continues to drive our coverage forward on key federal files that matter to business. He has twice been nominated for Best Scoop in the SABEW Canada awards, winning it once.

Born and raised in Manitoba, Brian previously worked at the National Post and the Ottawa Citizen, and has reported on Parliament Hill for the past decade. He’s a graduate of Carleton University’s master of journalism program and a passionate fan of the Winnipeg Jets.

As previously announced, after three successful years as Ottawa bureau chief, Laura Dhillon Kane will be moving to Toronto this summer to take on an editing role. She’ll be working across our bureaus to help elevate our news coverage and enterprise work as we broaden our offering to Canadian subscribers and Bloomberg Terminal clients.

Please join us in congratulating Brian on this important step in his career. With his promotion and Laura’s move, we’ll be posting soon for an editor-reporter to join our team in the capital. Look out for that on PATH.
