Bloomberg names new directors of news desks

Bloomberg editor in chief John Micklethwait sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

To All in Editorial & Research,

News Directors

We have new directors for our News Desks in the Americas and APAC. Julie Alnwick replaces Joe Weisenthal as Americas News Director, bringing a range of experience across platforms including print, radio and television. Mike Patterson, who joined Bloomberg as an intern 16 years ago and most recently ran Asia’s editing hub, takes on the role of News Director for APAC, succeeding Tracy Alloway who is moving on to new adventures in New York. Joe and Tracy are set to build out the Odd Lots product beyond their already successful podcast.

I’m also pleased to announce the appointment of Victoria Wakely as our first U.K. National Editor. Victoria will join Bloomberg in April from the BBC, where she has spent more than two decades in major editorial roles across its flagship programs. Victoria will direct coverage and drive expansion of the soon-to-be-launched U.K. homepage, reporting into David Merritt.

Bloomberg Media Campaign

Yesterday, Scott Havens announced the launch of Bloomberg Media’s new global marketing campaign: “Before you change the world. Bloomberg.” The campaign is aimed at continuing subscriber growth and increasing awareness of our global coverage. It will run for the next several months across video, digital, social, audio and on JetBlue flights.

In addition, we released the Bloomberg Media #ChangetheWorld Report 2022. And all this will be prominently displayed in an ad creative that will take over Grand Central Terminal in New York starting January 31. For more information, visit this page. And congratulations to our colleagues in Media on the launch.
