Bloomberg hires WSJ’s Patterson

Scott Patterson

Bloomberg News senior executive editor Chris Nagi sent out the following on Monday:

I’m excited to announce that Scott Patterson will join the Crypto/Cross-Asset team as a senior reporter, starting March 23.

Scott has spent the last two decades at the Wall Street Journal in enterprise roles spanning government, regulation and all things markets. He won the 2011 Loeb Award for his reporting on the previous year’s flash crash, a 2019 SABEW for stories about the Brazil dam collapse, and has written three business bestsellers about advanced trading and its risks.

At Bloomberg, Scott will turn his enterprise skills on crypto and other emerging markets for speculation — their people, institutions, technology, lobbying efforts and financing. Based in Washington, where he lives with his wife and son, and reporting to Managing Editor Sid Verma, Scott will bolster our investigative chops and bring a markets edge to stories chronicling how government and politics are shaping a new asset class, one where the line between gambling and investing is blurred.

Scott and I have known each other for 30 years, dating to the mid-1990s at Dow Jones Newswires, and it has long been an ambition to bring him into the Bloomberg fray. The crypto/gambling beat is an expanding focus of collaboration among many reporters and teams in our newsroom. Nobody could be a better addition to that cause. Please join me in welcoming him.

Chris.
