Bloomberg hires Popper, Iosebashvili for markets editing hub
Michael Tsang, managing editor of the markets editing hub at Bloomberg News, sent out the following on Monday:
I’m thrilled to announce that Nathaniel Popper and Ira Iosebashvili join us today as the newest members of the Markets Editing Hub.
Nathaniel Popper
Nathaniel comes to us from the Tarbell Fellowship, where he’s been their journalist in residence this past year. Prior to that, he spent a decade at The New York Times, covering the tech industry as well as Wall Street and the financial markets, after working at the LA Times. He’s written two books: Digital Gold, chronicling the origins of Bitcoin, and more recently, The Trolls of Wall Street, about r/WallStreetBets and meme stock trading culture on Reddit.
Nathaniel, who grew up in Pittsburgh and played hockey at Harvard, lives in Oakland with his wife, two sons and their dog. Outside of work, he loves hiking in the nearby Oakland Hills and going to see live music.
Ira joins us from Reuters, where he oversaw a team of markets reporters for the past five years, covering everything
Ira Iosebashvili
from stocks to currencies, debt and derivatives. Before that, he worked at the Wall Street Journal for a better part of a decade, reporting on global markets, commodities and foreign exchange, and penning lighthearted front-page “A-Hed” stories on the pitfalls of being the office Excel maven and the debate tearing apart the normally chilled-out fanbase of Phish.
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Ira was raised in Queens and moved to Russia to start his career in journalism at The Moscow Times. He lives in Syosset and enjoys playing the guitar, running and reading about Russian history.
Nathaniel will be based in SF and Ira will be based in NYC. Both will be in the New York office this week for onboarding and training. Please add them to your SDPLs and welcome them to Bloomberg.
