John Edwards, team leader for U.S. retail, consumer and luxury coverage, sent out the following on Tuesday:

Retail isn’t dead. It’s just evolving. Nowhere is that more true than in the ultra-competitive world of big-box retailing, led by that supersized colossus of them all: Walmart. Covering Walmart Nation is one of Bloomberg’s premier beats, and we’re thrilled to announce that Jaewon Kang will succeed Brendan Case in this crucial role starting Jan. 8.

Jaewon joins the Global Business Americas Consumer team from the Wall Street Journal’s Chicago bureau. There, she delivered scoop after scoop on the food retail beat (check out her exclusives on the Instacart IPO) and demonstrated a deft touch for original enterprise, such as her memorable tale of how Kroger became the biggest sushi seller in America. Previously, she covered private equity at the Journal and telecommunications at the Deal. A graduate of New York University, where she studied journalism and comparative literature, Jaewon enjoys hiking, traveling and watching reality TV.

Please extend a warm welcome and, while you’re at it, congratulations to Jaewon for her recent wedding. Many thanks as well to Brendan, now with the National desk, for his excellent work over the years with both the Consumer and Industrials teams. Jaewon is the latest addition to the Consumer group’s growing presence in the Chicago bureau, where restaurant industry reporter Daniela Sirtori-Cortina has recently moved. Onward!

Best regards,

John and Shelly
