Bloomberg News laid off less than 20 editorial staffers earlier this week, a person familiar with the changes confirmed to Talking Biz News.
The company has approximately 2,700 journalists.
The cuts were not related to any financial issues and were done to strategically reallocate resources, the person said. The news organization still has more editorial staffers than it did at the beginning of the year.
Among the cuts:
- Political journalist Ryan Teague Beckwith. He had been with the organization for four years covering the 2020, 2022 and 2024 elections, U.S. politics, election denial and voting systems. He was also a regular guest on “Sound On” and “Balance of Power” on Bloomberg Radio and “Bloomberg Businessweek” on TV.
- Congress reporter Laura Litvan. She has been covering Congress, both policy and politics. For most of her time, she served as a leadership reporter in the Senate or House, a broad-based job responsible for covering key legislation and Capitol Hill politics.
- Editor Joe Schneider. Most recently, he was in Los Angeles editing stories from West Coast federal and state courts. He also worked as a reporter and editor in Toronto and Sydney, Australia.
