Blanco departs CNNBusiness for IRS

Octavio Blanco

Octavio Blanco, an editor at CNNBusiness, has left the website to become a media relations specialist at the Internal Revenue Service.

Blanco had been at CNNBusiness since June 2023 and before that spent five years at Consumer Reports as a multimedia content creator.

He had earlier worked for CNN Money, which was the predecessor to CNNBusiness, in a variety of roles, including energy editor, autos editor and online breaking news editor. He also led an effort to produce financial content for CNNEspañol.

Blanco is a graduate of Syracuse University.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
