Biz journalist Leung hired as VP of content at ClickUp

Maggie Leung

Maggie Leung — most recently executive editor at venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and founding vice president of content at NerdWallet — is joining ClickUp as vice president of content and organic growth in January.

ClickUp is a productivity platform that serves teams. It integrates a variety of workplace tools — including project management, document collaboration, spreadsheets, goals, time-tracking and chat — in one place. Its enterprise users include Google, McDonald’s and Netflix.

The startup has raised $535 million, at a valuation of $4 billion. Investors include Andreessen Horowitz, where Leung has been executive editor of Future.com. The site served startup builders and others in the tech community.

Leung said: “I learned a good deal at a16z, but I really missed startup work. And it was easy for me to get behind ClickUp, because robust tools help teams collaborate more effectively and creatively around the world and across time zones. I’ve led remote teams for years, so that strongly resonates with me.”

Leung will start in 2023 because she’s taking a two-month travel sabbatical.

At NerdWallet, she built content operations from scratch, starting in 2013. By the time she left in 2021, her team neared 100 writers and editors, spread across the country. Serving on the company’s exec leadership team, she helped NerdWallet integrate acquisitions in the U.S. and U.K., as well as expand into Canada. The personal finance platform IPO’d at $1.8 billion in 2021, with 21 million users a month.

Previously, Leung spent more than two decades in news, including outlets such as CNN, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.
