Bankrate.com hires Coombes as tax editor

Andrea Coombes

Personal finance site Bankrate.com has hired Andrea Coombes as tax editor.

She has been a senior writer for Investor.com and a personal finance coach.

Coombes was with NerdWallet from 2017 to 2020 as an investing and retirement writer. Before that, Coombes had spent a decade at MarketWatch.com, including two years as an editor where she oversaw personal finance content.

She’s been a guest on national and local television and radio shows, and her stories have appeared online and in newspapers nationwide, including the Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch.com, Miami Herald and San Francisco Chronicle.

Coombes has won awards from the National Endowment for Financial Education, the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Association of Consumer Advocates.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
