Banjo named regional ME of global biz at Bloomberg

Shelly Banjo

Brian Bremner, senior executive editor of global business at Bloomberg News, sent out the following to the staff:

Hi all,

We now have a new leadership team running our Americas Global Business group. Shelly Banjo, whose drive and journalistic smarts redefined the New York bureau chief role, will become our regional managing editor. The ever-versatile Cathy Larkin will take on an expanded role as Shelly’s deputy with oversight responsibilities over the Global Business editor pool.

It’s hard to think of a better qualified newsroom leader than Shelly. She earned an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business, spent eight years at the Wall Street Journal covering the likes of Walmart and Nike, and has been an opinion columnist and technology senior reporter in Hong Kong and New York since joining Bloomberg in 2015.

During her time as bureau chief, she dramatically revamped coverage of the Greater New York region, delivering scoops and memorable enterprise. Shelly knows how to read a room, collaborates engagingly across teams and platforms, and brings out the very best in our reporters, editors and journalism.

Cathy started at Bloomberg 19 years ago as an intern on the health team. Since then, she’s done successful stints as a senior editor and team leader for the Equities and Breaking News groups, and more recently as the regional czar for our sports coverage. Cathy has amazing instincts when it comes to fast-breaking news and is unflappable under deadline pressure.

If all that weren’t enough, the two are an absolute delight to work with. Please reach out and welcome both as they take on these important leadership roles.

Best Regards,

Brian
