She joined in 2019 and previously had been at NewsData Corp. since Mary 2017, reporting on energy policy and utility regulation, and tracking key stories that reflect California’s push toward its ambitious clean energy targets. She covered a wide-ranging beat that included Pacific Gas & Electric and the California Public Utilities Commission.
Balaraman also worked at E&E News as a reporting fellow.
She holds a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
