Wired hires editors from Business Insider, Bloomberg

Wired executive editor Brian Barrett sent out the following on Monday:

Hi all,

I am so happy to share that Brian Kahn and Sophie Kleeman are joining WIRED. Brian will be our senior editor on the science desk, and Sophie will join Louise as senior editor on the business desk.
Sophie joins us from Business Insider, where she was the deputy enterprise editor. While at BI, she helped edit award-winning stories about the impacts of data centers, the epidemic of C-sections in the US, the staggering rates of violence against transgender people, and Elon’s Musk’s secretive Tesla empire. (She also followed Nancy Pelosi’s ice-cream-and-hot-dog diet for a week and lived to write 3,617 words it.) She previously worked as a reporter and editor at Gizmodo and as a freelance reporter.
Brian comes to us from Bloomberg. As an editor on the climate team, he oversaw clean tech coverage and ran that desk’s flagship newsletter. He has worked on ambitious stories on the dangers of decommissioning satellites in the atmosphere, a billionaire’s plan to build a power cable from Australia to Singapore, and the fierce competition for firefighting planes, among many others. Prior to Bloomberg, he oversaw climate coverage at Protocol and Earther.
Some of you have worked with Brian or Sophie (or both!) previously, and already know that they’re both extremely sharp, skilled, and collaborative editors. I can’t wait until the science and business desks get to see it for themselves.
Fortunately, they won’t have long to wait. Brian will start next Monday, May 4, and Sophie will start on May 11. Brian will be working out of the San Francisco office and reporting to Tim Marchman; Sophie will be working out of the NY office and reporting to Zoë Schiffer.
Please welcome them to WIRED!
Brian
