Russell Sherman of the “Press Profiles” podcast interviewed Bloomberg News editor in chief John Micklethwait about his job and where he’d like to see the news organization grow.

Micklethwait said that what governments do is impacting business — and therefore business news — much more than a decade ago.

“You have to care a lot more about what governments are doing,” said Micklethwait.

“We think we are the most global news organization. Because the one thing that is happening in the world I just depicted is that you can no longer blithely assume that Indonesia is going in one direction, that Argentina or Chile are going to do things,” said Micklethwait. “You need reporters there.”

He also said that Bloomberg has looked hard at the interplay between politics and economics.

Micklethwait noted that private markets are now becoming more important for coverage. And he said that artificial intelligence will help the company translate news content into local languages.
