Yahoo names Johnston exec editor, Yahoo News U.S.

Yahoo has promoted Lauren Johnston to executive editor of Yahoo News, U.S. As per Yahoo:

“Johnston will lead Yahoo’s team of journalists across news, entertainment & lifestyle, while overseeing the creation and implementation of the strategy for original content to expand into new audience segments and deepen engagement.”

Commenting on her new role, Johnston said:

“It’s been an honor and a pleasure to work alongside our talented editorial teams through some of the most high-impact news moments of the past decade, and I’m delighted to take the helm as executive editor, to shape Yahoo News’ original content strategy and our next generation of news products.”

She joined Yahoo in July 2014 as head of breaking news. She then held the post of head of programming for Yahoo News + Homepage.

Before that, she was at the New York Daily News, where she worked for more than five years in various roles, including deputy managing editor for digital and digital editorial director.

She also won from the New York State Associated Press Association, the Newswomen’s Club of New York and the top prize in a New York GEN Editors Lab hackathon.

Johnston has a B.A. in English from Kenyon College and a M.A. in journalism from New York University.
